Date # 8 Gloria

I had to work almost all day Saturday which really sucked but it was okay because I knew I had a date that night with Gloria.

I had called her in the afternoon to sort out the details of our night time plans.

The night started with meeting for gourmet pizza at an Italian restaurant. I got to the meeting spot, just before she showed up.

Gloria is almost as tall as me, not skinny but not overweight either and has a very pretty face.

We chatted over dinner and turns out she's very into comedy as well. She has an accent (she's Israeli) which I couldn't tell if I thought was cute or annoying ( i know it's not her fault but I felt it a bit of a turn off).

After dinner we walked over to a theatre to watch this great circus/comedy/jazz show. The show was kind of like this funky Seasame Street type world with a clown, trapeze artists, a juggler, a jazz musician all living in an apartment building.

After the show, Gloria told me she had to get up early and had to call it a night so I told her I'd walk her since she was on my way.

When we got to the spot where we had to split, I nervously kind of stood there and she looked right at me. I said something along the lines of "I had fun tonight, we should hang out again" and she simply replied with a distant "You're too funny...". So then I reassured her with a "we should do something again this week". Then we did the kiss-on-the-cheek thing and she was off.

Overall I had fun but I didn't feel blown away by her. I don't think I'd want to pursue anything but I also wouldn't mind seeing her at least one more time, just to make sure.

I realize I really don't know what I want. I know I don't want anything serious and I have it in my head that once I start dating someone, that's it. Like now, I'm single so I can go out and flirt with girls and try to meet lots of people but if I start dating the first girl I meet, then that's that. Plus i have a lot of potential dates with other people coming up.

I'll most likely call her again this week to do something. I just hope it's for all the right reasons.

--

After Gloria and i split ways at 10:30pm, my night was anything but over. Turns out friends of mine were performing an improv show in honor of St Patrick's Day. Basically the appeal of the show was to watch them do comedy while getting totally wasted.

At the show i bumped into an old buddy of mine from high school and sat with him and his friends. Shortly after I realized I know quite a few people there.

The show itself was a lot of fun with all the performers getting fucking trashed.

After the show, a girl I had never met before come up to me to ask a question:

Random girl - "Hi, I have a random question for you"
Elwood - "Shoot"
Random Girl - "Are you on Plentyoffish...?"
Elwood - : "Yeah"
Random Girl - " I thought I recognized you.

We ended up chatting a little bit. I never exchanged info but I'm going to try and remember her face so I can locate her on Plentyoffish.

One last piece of news:
I received last night my matches from the speed dating event. I only had one match and don't remember who this person was but thanks to facebook I found a picture and can now associate her face with her name.

Again, I wasn't really thrown back by anyone at the event but i"m willing to give one date a chance.

Date #7 - Older Chick

About 4 weeks ago, before I got sick, I realized that I every time I had a show to perform on a Friday or Saturday night, by the time the show would end (about 12am), the night would be pretty much over. However, I'd also be in the heart of My City's bar scene. The comedy club is sandwiched in between 2 bars and is on a street over from the main bar street.

So I decided for that one Friday night, to put up an ad on Craigslist looking for someone to go out for a beer or coffee after my show. I didn't mention anything about the fact I was in a show (I thought I'd save that card for later) but simply said I would be in the area attending something and would be free after 11:30pm-12am.

No one replied to it and i ended up just coming home after the show as always.

The next day, however, I get a response from someone saying that they only saw the ad now and was wondering if I was free that night. Unfortunately I wasn't but after exchanging e-mails, pictures and me scoping her out on facebook (just to be safe), we arranged to go for a beer the following Tuesday. It was also after we agreed on a day and time that I realized she is 5 years older than me, hence Older Chick.

That date never happened because I got sick that week. I cancelled on her and she was cool about it. She even told me that recently she started a group through craigslist where random people she met online come over to her apartment and jam. Knowing that I play guitar she really wanted me to come to the next jam session.

I thought that was cool because even if she's not my type perhaps I'll get to meet new people through her. We also arranged to go out that weekend.

Saturday came around and I was healthy and feeling good. We had arranged to go to a bar that makes their own beer. Older Chick particularly likes that place because it has alcoholic cider.

I was at a friend's place for supper and was running late because I had to pretty much travel across downtown to get to the bar. I called Older Chick to let her know and she insisted i stay where I was and she came and picked me up!

That was pretty cool.

We then drove back to the other side of downtown to the bar. Inside we grabbed a table and chatted for about an hour.

She seems pretty cool but I could tel right away I'm not really into her. i think the fact she's older and that she smokes really turned me off but I still had fun talking to her none the less.

She looked good and healthy and told me she had recently lost 50 pounds! What an accomplishment.

After about an hour and half she got really tired and wanted to call it a night. That was fine by me. I was getting tired too and also had plans to go meet my brother Ira at a party.

So I'm still on the search but hey, I'm getting practice!

--

As a side note, around the time I was getting e-mails from Older Chick, I found an ad on craigslist in the women seeking men section about someone looking for an "Adventurous, Smart, Funny, etc." guy.

I decided to respond to the ad and made a list of all the characteristics she was looking for with an explanation of how I am those things.

Sure enough a couple of days later I get an e-mail from her saying that she thinks i"m interesting and funny and told me a bit about herself.

She's a film producer from My City, she likes a bunch of the same stuff I do and she got out of a long term relationship so she's not looking for anything complicated, but if I was still interested she wouldn't mind meeting up.

I replied to her e-mail and then nothing. Hadn't heard from her. So I just shrugged it off.

4 weeks later I get an e-mail from her saying she's in the Yukon for 2 weeks visiting a friend but has not forgotten about me and would like to go for a beer or coffee when she gets back.

So, a girl I have never met, was thinking about me in the Yukon.

Cool.

Let's see what happens with this...

Date # 6 - Catch22

Friday night I slept at my parent's place in the suburbs. I had breakfast with my mom and then got a lift back to my apartment. I'm able to type this because I managed to get my Internet working by moving my desktop computer into the kitchen. Good thing RM1 and RM2 are out of town.

So after getting my Internet fixed temporarily, I dicked around in my kitchen, mostly playing guitar, until it was time to meet Catch22. We decided to go for coffee at a place close to my house and I had 5 minutes to get there.

I rushed over there and met her in time. She had just arrived there as well.

First off, it was about 2 or 3 months since I had met her at that party, so I guess over the weeks, the image of her in my head changed a little. She was/is still cute but not quite as I thought I remembered her. The other things are also a) I was a tad drunk at the time and b) maybe I'm just being really picky.

So we sat, ate and drank coffee and chatted for a while, getting know things about each other.

Things I do like about her is, as just mentioned, she's cute. She has this nerdy glasses look going. She's like the cute innocent nerdy girl from biology class or something.

She's tall and skinny like me. Also, I find her quite funny, which is a big thing for me. I don't' know what it is but she had thins cute kind of sense of humor.

We ended up "having coffee" for 2 hours.

Things were going well until one little thing I said. I'm not sure if I'd mentioned it in the blog or not, but I'm a comedian. I recently joined a comedy troupe that does a show several times a week. We headline twice a week and open up for other comedians on the weekends.

Tonight I was to partake in the opening show. I went to the date with the attitude of not telling her about it because I didn't want to invite her too much into my world so soon. I thought it would be a good thing to introduce her to in the future.

Unfortunately, I didn't listen to my conscience, and decided to mention it to her. She was really excited, at first, saying how she had nothing else to do. So I said great she should come with her friends. That's when she admitted all her friends were out of town.

This is when I realized that perhaps she just got together with me since no one was around.

Things got worse when I told her that I was also meeting some old friends of mine, brothers to each other, so let's call them The S Brothers.

When I told her that, she was reluctant to want to come, telling me a story of how she organized once to meet with a friend from out of town while already having plans with other friends and then had to mix them up and it got complicated.

I don't blame her, and I saw her point, but I kind of got disappointed because when I first mentioned the show to her, she accepted to come right away. No questions asked. But when I made things complicated by saying i had other plans with other people, etc. then she didn't sound as interested anymore.

We left the coffee shop together and when we passed my apartment, we said good bye and she said "See you tonight or some other time" or something like that.

So that's that. I'm not sure what her intentions are but i think she's cute and I wouldn't mind hanging otu with her again, even if it's just as friends.

I'll give her a couple of days and then call her and see if she'd like to hangout again. My friend was telling me I should invite her over for dinner btu I'm afraid that's too forward. Any suggestions?

Date #5 - Blondie

Ah to find time to actualy write this blog! Sorry to keep you hanging.

So on Tuesday I had a date with Blondie. Like the last 3 people I went on a date with, I found her online at the same dating site.

What caught me on her profile wasn't her picture (which didn't really do her wonders) but the fact that she was an illustrator and liked to draw comics. We had sent back and forth a couple of messages until I just asked her if she wanted to meet in person for some coffee. I'm not the biggest fan of getting to know someone on the Internet first and then in real life. You're basically doing it twice because you can never tell if the person is the same both on the Internet and in person.

When I didn't hear from her for a couple of days I maybe I had turned her off for wanting to meet so quickly and thought of ways to change my strategy for the next person. However, a couple of days later she got back to me and was up to meet for coffee.

We arranged to meet at a French cafe closer to ehr part of downtown and since her face was hard to see in the pictures, my only way of recognizing her was that she was blond and said she'd be wearing a bright red jacket.

Well that day it was 29 C outside so I thougth I wouldn't find her. I gotthere on time and waited. Then a gorgeous tall blond showed up at the same corner looking for someone. She didnt fit the description at all (Blondie was supposed to be 5'7", this person was easily 5'11") but I was really hoping it was her, haha.

It wasn't.

But after that person left, a very average, someone cute looking blong with glasses, holding a red jacket in her arms appeared.

We nixed coffee and went for dinner instead. We chatted quite a bit and I learned that she is originaly from Montreal, of Dutch decent (her father was born in Holland), moved to Ontario for art school and recently graduated and moved back home with her parents.

She's an illustrator looking for work and does a lot fo stuf fon the computer.

We also chatted a bit about the online dating scene. I think she's new to dating (either after a while or in geenral) and is meeting a lot of peopel online btu I think she's just interested in making friends right now (which is pretty much my mentality as well).

After dinner, this was usually the time where we pay the bill and awkwardly go seperate ways Tthe bill came and she said "So we're going to go, then?" so I started to get ready to go home when she contiued with "..for coffee?"

I was shocked.

SO we went for coffee and chatted some more about stuff.

It started getting late and i had to go home and get some stuff done. When we got outside, I commented how it was so nice and would be the best time for a walk but that I really needed to get home. She agreed and decided to walk me halfway home in the wrong direction.

When it was finally time to part ways i asked if she'd be free saturday night. She said she was pretty busy all weekend, so I joked abotu it being due to her having all these dates from the dating site. She actually admitted to that being the reason but tod me that I was the best one so far.

So that was cool.

I'm not really sure what I want or what to do next. She's very simple looking, nothing fantastic (Wendy was definitely prettier), but she's not ugly. She also has a pretty average body which is fine by me but it's something in her character thats attracting me a bit. She has this nerdy feel to her, which I like. Turns out we both readthe same webcomics! And we both like the same novelty t-shirt from that site!

I also just got an e-mail from her now saying she may be busy but she gave me her cell number anyways and said I could call her to see whats up.

So we'll see what happens

Summer Time Rocks

I've been realy tired and worn out from the 2 weddings I attended recently and I feel like it's been catching up with me.

I was feeling a bit down seeing other people get married. From missing being with someone and not wishing to get married. Hell no! I ain't ready for that yet. Also there is a bit of pressure on me since I'm the last of the cousins (we'e 14) to get married. Thankfully, Ira's divorce kind of put him at the top of the list again, so I may be out of the clear for a little bit longer, haha.

Anyways, I was pretty hot this evening and decided to go take a bike ride to the bookstore to research soem ideas for work. The drive was fantastic!

I live on an area that is a nit higher up then the city center, so when I need to go into the heart of downtown, I just coast downwards and it feels great. Especially tonight with the nice cool summer breeze pushing in my face.

I chilled at the bookstore for a bit. After the book store, I decided to get myself a milkshake and just chilled some more. I guess the point of this story is as much a sometime I yearn to be sith someone, sometimes being alone feels so good. Living over seas really let me appreciate going for long walks on my own. I would just hit the streets and explore and enjoy some "Elwood" time.

When I used to hang out with Psycho Girl back in the day, she owuld always take me on walks and all I wanted to do was make out with her (which I never did since I was so shy), but now i"m so glad I've come to appreciate walking and biking alone.

So for all you people who sometimes feel really lonely, enjoy the summer and go for a walk or a bike ride and enjoy some time to yourself! You'll come to realize there are plus things to being single!

Speaking of which, I'm actually going on another date tomorrow night. This makes Date #5 of 10 dates. Keep a look out for a post about it soon.

Date # 4 - Med Head

Last night was probably the most interesting date I had so far. The night itself turned out to be pretty random.

I made contact with Med Head online a couple of weeks ago. All I knew was that she had a sense of humor, was half Jewish/half Greek from Manhattan and was in My City studying Med School.

We had arranged to meet at a street corner at 8pm. As I approached the corner, I had to wait across the street for the light to turn green. I noticed a cute girl waiting all by herself and wondered if that was her. After a while I decided to play a little joke and call her on my cell but just as i was looking for her number, my phone was ringing and it was her! I look up and the person across the street is on the phone, so that was Med Head.

I have to say Med Head is really pretty. Definitely the prettiest of the girls I talked about on this site.

So we started to walk and talk. Things started off ok. I may have been taking a bit too much, but that's a problem I have in general. The only bad (and kind of gross thing) was that I haven't been feeling too hot the past couple of days and while we were walking, my stomach was a bit... upset. Thank god we were outside, but I'm afraid she might think I.... smell. Hopefully there was a breeze or something pushing away from us.

Anyways, there is a festival in town this week and every year where they sell tickets, is a beer tent that's really cheap and a band or something playing at night. We bought beer (awkwardly; the bartender didn't know who to give the money to, we both didn't know who was paying, or what)., found a bench and sat and chatted for a while.

While chatting I saw Trucker, RM1's boyfriend walk by. Turns out he was there looking for RM1. He turns to us and awkwardly asks if we're on a date. to which I hesitate and she simply says "yeah, sort of...".

We continued chatting and I know I was enjoying it but I don't know if she was. She laughed a bit at my jokes but she didn't seem so into me. then again, we just met right?

I'm not sure what her deal is because basically she has to study all summer for mes school but I think she just wanted to meet new people outside of the med circle (all her friends are from her classes, she told me).

After about an hour and a half, she said she had to go study. Again, I made things a tad awkward by walking with her for several blocks towards her house which was in the complete opposite direction to where I live, and she knew that. I apologized if I was coming off creepy, but she said it was ok.

Then as we approached the street we started at, the bus to take me back to the beer tent was coming. I quickly said goodbye and ran towards the bus. In my stride, I told her I had fun and that we should do something again, to which she simply replied something like "ya ok".

I'm not sure if she'd want to meet up again but to find out I deliberately told her earlier in the night about a website that picked her interest. So, when I got home, I had an excuse to e-mail her. I sent her the link, an apology for running off to abruptly and also mentioned that if she ever need a break from Med School, she could always give me call since I'll be around all summer. She mentioned earlier how she once dressed up as a goth person for halloween, so I joked in the message that we could dress up as goths and roam the streets scaring people

So, she was off and i was on a bus headed back to the beer tent. This is when the night got interesting.

I get off the bus, go to the beer tent and bump into RM1. Her boyfriend is nowhere to be seen. Turns out he just missed her and walked home, which was where I had left Med Head! This is about 10 blocks away from the beer tent which is the opposite direction from where I live.

RM1 asked if I wanted to walk with her. Since the weather was so nice, I accepted and we walked. We decide, while walking, to stop for ice cream. At the ice cream place, I bumped into this guy I know, JJ.

JJ was off to this preview show for the festival. Basically, each act in the festival had a 3 minute windo to to showcase their show for later in the week. It's totally not whre I expeted at the end of the night, and it was definitely a lot of fun.

Overall, regardless if the date went well or not, I had a good time.

Date # 3 - Happy

Last Monday I met up with Happy. This marks the 4th girl I've met to go on a date since I broke up with Wendy. I have yet to have a second date with any of these people.

I'm not sure I can even call what I did really a date...

We arranged to meet for coffee. Thankfully, she picked a place right around the corner from me which was super convinient in case I needed to bail. I was a bit worried she'd be really ugly.

When Happy showed up, I was stunned. I will admit she was a bit a larger person than I'm normally attracted to, but her face was so pretty. I didn't have a hard time keeping eye contact with her.

So we sat down and chatted about stuff for a while. She seemed interested but then she asked me about what I was looking for on the dating website we found each other on. She was intrigued that I had just moved downtowna nd asked me if the reason I was on the site was to meet other people to hang out with. I slowly said "yes but...." ensuing I was also looking for something if it were to lead into it.

Then Happy started to tell me about a party her friend was having and that I would love her friends and I should go...

...Except she wouldn't be there. She had anohter arty she'd be going to insted...

I was thrown off a bit but didn't mind. I want to meet new peopel and i love randomness. However, i totally got the impression that
a) she was looking for anything
b) if she was, I"m not what she's looking for

I also havn't heard from her since except to tell me that the party was moved to a day I can't attend. I wrote a note to her saying that we should hangout some time but havn't heard from her since.

Well, it could have been worse, I guess.

Date #2 - Psych

Yesterday I had my date with Psych.

Just like with my date with Sheira, I was running late. Fortunately, the weather was so beautiful, she didn't mind waiting outside an extra 15 minutes.

We agreed to meet at the University campus because she's a grad student there. I love being there in the summer because it's so nice and it let me reminisce my old days when I attended the University.

I approached the front gates and out from a pillar jumps out Psych.

Now just a note before I continue. I am not a shallow guy. I am not only attracted to hot models with big tits. I am more into personality than looks, but the small percentage that I reserve for looks is still an important factor for attraction.

That being said, upon first look at Psych, I'm sorry to say, I was not attracted.

It's always a gamble meeting people through the internet because photos can be misleading. Hers in particular. She had about 5 pictures online and looked different in each of them so I didn't know what to expect. In one photo, she did look cute with curly hair and freckles on her face.

So, to a minor extent, I was shocked to see that they were not freckles but in fact a huge case of acne. Aside from that I could see facial hair coming off the ends of her lips. She also had a huge scar on the side of her face.

However, I didn't run away. I stood my ground as a gentleman and ignored all these things to see if she was a nice person.

In fact after hanging out for a bit, the more I looked at her face, I began to notice that under the pimples, mustache hair and scar, she was quite pretty.

We walked and talked for a bit and headed to a coffee shop. We took our coffees to go and sat outside on some steps.

She came off as a very friendly, outgoing, bubbly person. I learned that she is originally from Toronto, has an older sister in London (England) and is traveling to Europe in the next week. She studies psychology and absolutely loves My City.

Maybe it's because I already established in my head that I was interested to start relations with this person, that I felt pretty comfortable the whole hour we hung out. I realized I did a lot of talking but again I think it was due to feeling comfortable (because I talk a lot in general) than being nervous.

If she were to give me a shout to hang out sometime, I think I'd consider hanging out but I can tell right now I'm just not attracted to her personality (and to lesser importance - looks) in that way.

Anyways, summer is coming and I'll be downtown and I'm sure I'll easily meet 8 other girls in the next couple of months.

Date #1 - Sheira

I wish I would post more often but I've just been so busy lately! Please, my fellow readers, don't lose interest!

Actually I just realized that the other day when I met up with Sheira could actually be considered DATE #1 (of the 10 dates, each with 10 different girls, that I'm trying to do).

I was running 10 minutes late.

I showed up at the coffee place and she was happy to see me. She wanted to get something to eat instead of coffee. Since I had the car, I had the opportunity to take her somewhere out of the area she lives in.

We ended up going for pizza at this place I like.

Either she really didn't like me or is the most sarcastic person I have ever met. I'm pretty sure it's the latter but it took me a while to figure out.

For example, in the car she started telling me something about how she is Italian and pissed that because of some laws preventing her from getting an Italian dual citizenship because of where her Grandparents were from or something. I was listening but I"m not the best driver in the world and I had to cut her off so I could concentrate on driving. I did it in a non-rude way and she was all "Fine then! Nevermind!" but she was smiling.

Then in the restaurant she was complaining how the menu was so vast and wanted pizza with pepperoni. So I pointed an item to her and she snapped "I'm going down the list ok! Don't screw me up!". Again she was smiling though.

It was a bit overwhelming.

I tried doing the same to her. Not sure if it worked.

I can't remember how it came up or who brought it up but I ended up mentioning a bit about how I dated someone and why we broke up, etc., so I asked Sheira to tell me a story.

She decided to share two. Basically she has been in 2 big relationships. The first one was a big open thing that last over a year.

The second one was not an open thing but they started to not get along or something. I can't remember.

She seems like a big party girl and is someone always surrounded by tons of guys.

Not really my type.

After dinner, I dropped her off and she saoi to call her sometime to do something.

So... I guess she had some fun.

Oh! Two highlights of the date:
1. While driving, my mom called me and I got Sheira to pick up. My mom was so confused and wanted to tell me something so she told Sheira and Sheira told me. So awkward.

2. While talking about religion, Sheira mentioned how she's not really observant anymore, but her sister practices catholicism and plans to lose her virginity once married. Then Sheira says "Like my sister is going to find a virgin. Pshah!"

Little does Sheira know that I'm a virgin.

I may call her again. Got nothing to lose.

Meanwhile, I called Victoria today and she was happy to hear from me. I think she wanted to get together. Unfortunately I had hockey tonight. So, I asked her about tomorrow and she said she's going to go watch the hockey game at a bar but that I could join her and her friends. So, that was cool.

Also, I may get to date #2 really soon. I've been messaging someone back and forth through this online dating site I use. I'll call her Psych since she's a psychologist.

Psych sounds really cool. She likes things like the Simpsons, candy and tobogganing. She seems like a really busy person between school and working at some health clinic treating people with eating disorders.

It's hard to tell by her picture if she's really cute or not. I"m not saying I am only attracted to gorgeous women but I need an attracting of some sort for it to work. The worst thing about online things is people post pictures to show hat they look like but most of the time they look different in all of their photos!

After not hearing from her for a week (3rd e-mail I sent her back and forth) she got back saying she was with friends from out of town and then busy with work and that she wanted to get together sometime soon.

I wrote back and gave her my cel number and she replied saying she's call me this weekend to arrange plans for getting together next week.

So organized.

I'll keep up you all updated on what happens with everyone!
